Welcome to the blog!!! I'm so excited to share beautiful images, tips, tricks and experiences with you!
Every year I learn from so many talented photographers through online classes, blogs, workshops, etc. This year, I decided to pay it forward and HOST my very first workshop!!! The topic was "Introduction to Manual Mode and Using Natural Light." I was SO EXCITED and also a little nervous! But the workshop turned out so incredibly magical!!!! I don't think it could have gone better! (Except maybe a little warmer for my poor models...) But they all killed it!! I am SO happy to be able to share this experience with you all! How did I pick my topic? Whenever I get asked, "I would love to be a photographer. Where do I start?" I ALWAYS tell them to start with learning manual mode. Cameras are so smart and wonderful, don't get me wrong! But cameras aren't mind readers. The BEST way to get the photos you love, is to learn how to adjust the settings yourself. That way you can manipulate the light to do what you want it to do. You can control what your picture looks like instead of being disappointed when your idea doesn't work out because the camera was on auto mode and had no idea what you were trying to do! Auto mode is great. But when you understand and adjust your own settings... that is when magic happens! I LOVE using natural light in my images. To me, light is what makes or breaks a photo. Light speaks to my soul!!! All of my favorite photos have light captured within them. And I use that light to help highlight and almost showcase the emotion I'm trying to capture. So I of course wanted to have a majority of my workshop cover using various forms of natural light. At the workshop I covered the four main settings for manual mode: ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, and White Balance. I also covered how to shoot in harsh light, shade, how to diffuse light, how to do sun flares in various forms, and my favorite: how to shoot in the golden hour light. It had been snowing the whole week so I was SO NERVOUS that I wouldn't have the various light situations I was hoping for. But it was so incredibly perfect!!! And our golden hour? OH MY HEAVENS!!! It was TO DIE FOR!!! It was so incredibly gorgeous! THE MODELS!!! I had two couples and they both did SO INCREDIBLY WELL!!! It got really cold as the night went on and they were freezing! But they seriously ROCKED their shoot!!! They were so kind and patient with us all as we worked our way through the shoot. They were so sweet and affectionate, and they seriously made the workshop so incredible!!!! They were every photographer's dream models!!! Gabie and Caleb! These two newlyweds were seriously so incredibly adorable!!! They were so natural in front of the camera. They were sweet and affectionate and we all just LOVED photographing them!!! I have known Gabie through my church and it has been an honor to watch her grow into a beautiful woman inside and out! Her sweet husband had no problem showering her with hugs and kisses during the shoot. It was seriously amazing. They did so well incorporating patterns and layers in their outfits. They seriously looked gorgeous!!! We could not stop taking pictures of them! They seriously killed it and I am so in love with their pictures! Also, Gabie let me know she wanted some pictures with sun flares and I was pumped. She was speaking my language! Cassie and Nate!!! This couple is ALWAYS fun to work with!!! They have SO MUCH personality!! I always love photographing them because they always make me laugh! I have known Cassie since we were babies (literally) and Nate is such an awesome guy. They really compliment each other well. They did such an amazing job with mixing in textures and layers with their outfits!! They looked incredible!!! We again could not stop taking pictures of this sweet couple. They were so affectionate and so much fun to be around. Their big personalities really came through. And each kiss they would hold for SO LONG to make sure everyone got the shot. It was awesome!!! They seriously killed it as well!!! And I love their photos!!! THE PHOTOGRAPHERS!!!!! My workshop would not have been anywhere near as wonderful without all of the amazingly talented photographers that took part in it!!! I want to give a quick shout out to them all. Seriously, they KILLED it! They are so talented! Go show them some love!!! Davina Ogilvie of Daisy Lee Photography Sarita Day of Mrs. Photography Aubrey Redford of Aubrey Lynn Camera These three ladies seriously did so amazing!!! I had so much fun getting creative with them! They were so wonderful with my models and I was so impressed with how well they all did!!! They helped make it an amazing night and I am so grateful to them all!!! So seriously, click the link for each of them and check them out. They are also on Facebook and Instagram. I am SO INCREDIBLY thankful to the amazing models and my talented fellow photographers for making the night so magical! It was such a great night filled with laughter and inspiration. I could not have asked for my first hosted workshop to go any better than it did!!! I am so excited to host another one!
